More and more parents used tablets and mobile phones as their child’s babysitter – but this is not necessarily a bad thing.
Here are some tips on how to keep your child safe and healthy even as he plays with his new tablet.
Be Wary of Symptoms
Overuse of the iPad can cause certain symptoms such as a headache, eye problems, and according to extreme cases, seizures. If any of these symptoms crop up, bring your child to a family health doctor in Lehi and check whether he or she can attribute the symptoms to iPad use or other problems.
Ideally, though, you should not wait for any symptoms to reveal themselves before consulting a doctor if your kid plays too much with an iPad.
Reduce Screen Time Use
This is an obvious method for parents, but the problem is – how much screen time is healthy? The answer varies, and ideally, you should supervise screen time. Experts advise parents to keep screen time to one hour a day, preferably doled out in 8 hours instead of just one sitting.

Parents are also advised to have the iPad “surrendered” to them at the end of the day. It might not be enough to tell your child not to use the iPad after bedtime, so having it in your possession at night would actually be better.
This also gives you the chance to find out what they are doing with the iPad, especially when it comes to social media.
Be Better with Tablet Use
Stay one-step ahead of your child when it comes to using the tablet, changing settings, and various other configuration settings. Note, though, that laying down rules and regulations for tablet use should also be a priority.
While it pays to have “stealth” skills as a parent, it is usually better to communicate with the child when it comes to how the tablet is used.
