No Burglars Allowed: Making Your Home More Secure When You’re Away

Secure All Doors and Windows

Secure All Doors and WindowsNothing is more upsetting than to find out that your home has become a target of burglars when you were away. Sometimes, people tend to ignore the simple ways to make their homes more secure against burglars.

If you think you have been neglecting this, here are some things you can do to keep your home safe and secure even when you are away.

Secure All Doors and Windows

As Auckland home security experts puts it, safety starts from every entry point of your home. Keep doors and windows locked at all times — even the garage and pet doors. If you forget to lock even just a single door or window, a thief can easily get into your home. To be safe, unplug your garage doors, so thieves cannot break in even if they decode your signal or get your keys.

Stop Mail Subscriptions

Do not let burglars know you are not at home by placing your mail and newspaper subscriptions on hold. If burglars see that newspapers are accumulating at your front yard, they will know you are out of the house and use this opportunity to commit their criminal acts. As an alternative, you can ask your neighbour to get the newspaper for you.

Alert Your Home Security Company

Tell the company that handles your home security system that you will not be at home for the following days or weeks. This way, they can keep an eye on your home and report to the police if there is any irregularity happening. The faster they act, the better the chance of catching the thief in action.

Unplug Electronics

Burglars are not the only one that makes your home at risk while you are gone. Unplug all your appliances and electronics before leaving home. This minimises the risks of fire when you are away.

It is better to be safe than sorry. Keep these things in mind the next time you plan a holiday, unless you want to leave your home in the hands of burglars.
